Women's Volleyball Concludes Season with Loss to UMass Dartmouth

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's volleyball team saw its season come to a close Saturday evening, falling to UMass Dartmouth 3-0 in Little East Conference play at Glenbrook Gym.

The Spartans (7-18, 0-8 LEC) honored their lone senior, Gabrielle Carpenter, prior to the contest. Carpenter finished the match with two digs, a kill and a block. The Corsairs conclude the season with a 3-5 mark in LEC play and a 9-15 record overall after claiming the three-set win 25-11, 25-14, 25-15. UMass Dartmouth held a 33-9 edge in kills in the match, and notched 18 aces to Castleton's three.

Lizzie Goodrich, Madison Hamelink and Shannon Manchester each had two kills apiece for Castleton, with Goodrich playing a role in three blocks as well. Bre MacDuff led the team with six digs and five assists.

Nicole Silverman led the Corsairs with eight kills, and Emma Aillet and Mallory Singer had seven kills apiece. Silverman also added a team-high six aces, while Nora Craft added five aces of her own. Courtney Carreiro led the team with seven digs.

The Spartans more than tripled their win output from the 2018 season, completing the 2019 campaign with seven wins under first-year head coach Lindsay Bynon. Castleton is slated to return 13 of the 14 players on its roster in 2020, potentially giving the Spartans their most experienced team in recent history.
