NEW LONDON, N.H. – Completing its regular season slate, the Castleton University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the defending conference champion Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
Castleton falls to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-10 and stays perfect in the North Atlantic Conference East (4-0).
Getting off to a fast start by sweeping Castleton's third doubles team, Colby-Sawyer never looked back. At the first flight, Quentin Barthe and Ryan Mulder put up the biggest fight but fell 8-3. The duo of Trevor Hanna and Brody Wagner suffered their first loss of the season in second doubles to drop to 7-1 overall.
During the singles action, the Chargers just kept motoring along. Hanna and Wagner each did their best to put up a fight and slow their opponents, grabbing two games in each set. Yet, Colby-Sawyer's players managed identical 6-2 and 6-2 score lines.
Castleton will host the NAC East Championship on Saturday with the qualifying teams and seedings to be announced following the last regular-season league match on Monday.
